A bit of history: HelpNDoc's origins
Spoiler alert: we needed it, so we created it. You liked it, so we enhanced it. It's as simple as that!
HelpNDoc was created because we were frustrated by how complex and expensive help authoring tools were. We needed a quick and easy way to create documentation for our helpndoc professional edition download Free Activators so we tried many tools available at the time. It continued to evolve internally for quite some time until it hit us: why not publish it for others like us who were tired of expensive and complex authoring tools ? And why not make it free, without any limitations, for personal use and evaluation purposes to help people make sure this is a suitable tool for what they were trying to achieve ? That's how HelpNDoc 1.0 was released 10 years ago today!
HelpNDoc returns in HelpNDoc II
We took the time but we finally did it: HelpNDoc 2.0 introduced Word and PDF generation.
At that time, HelpNDoc 1.x was able to generate CHM and HTML documentation formats only. It was well received and we had nice feedback from its users. But two of the most requested missing features were Word and PDF documentation generation: after much effort to implement them right, those were introduced in HelpNDoc 2.0. And this helped HelpNDoc become more and more popular as we enhanced it throughout the 2.x release cycle. While many users were happy they could use it for free, some told us they have been using the free Personal Edition for multiple years before they purchased it, just as a way to say thank you and support future development. Most told us how easy HelpNDoc was to use. We couldn't be more thrilled to read such comments as this is why we started it in the first place!
HelpNDoc 2.x saw a huge number of new users, helpndoc professional edition download Free Activators. It was also built on top of pieces of code and a user interface developed for the 1.x circle which was starting to show its age. It was time to shake things up.
HelpNDoc 3: let's rewrite everything
By introducing more and more features, the HelpNDoc 2 code base and user interface started to become more and more complex. Something had to be done!
We started HelpNDoc because we thought alternatives were too complex (and too expensive). A floating license of HelpNDoc can be installed on any number of computers. Once launched, it will request a lease from the floating license server to make sure it is allowed to run.
Warning: The floating license server needs to be properly installed and activated. It must also be accessible on the network from the computer where the floating license helpndoc professional edition download Free Activators HelpNDoc will be used.
Log in using your IBE Software / HelpNDoc customer credentials to retrieve the full version of your software as well as your personal license key. Your customer’s section credentials where sent to you when your order was completed.
Once logged in to your customer’s section you will need to download the full version of HelpNDoc.
Note: It is not possible to activate the free Personal Edition of HelpNDoc. You will need to download the full version from your customer’s section.
Once the full version of HelpNDoc has been installed, launch HelpNDoc. It will show the “License server configuration” dialog.
Enter the following fields:
- Server address: the address of the server helpndoc professional edition download Free Activators the network ;
- Port: the port the server is listening to (13 by default).
Click “OK&rdquo. HelpNDoc now starts and is fully functional.
Troubleshooting
Make sure that the floating license server is properly installed and activated. It must also be accessible on the network from the computer where the floating license of HelpNDoc will be used.
Symptom: HelpNDoc fails to connect to the floating license server.
Solution: Make sure that the server is running and activated and that it is accessible on the network. Also make sure that the server’s firewall allows communication on the specified port (13 by default). If the server address has changed, click the “Change server…” button to specify its new address and port.
Symptom: An error occurs when starting HelpNDoc saying that it failed to get a lease from the floating license server as no more free leases are available.
Solution: This means that you are trying to run more instances of HelpNDoc than the number of floating licenses purchased. Close another instance to be able to open a new one.
If for some reason an instance of HelpNDoc crashes without releasing its lease, the license server will think that the lease is still in use and will not issue another lease when requested. Leases are usually updated every 30 minutes (configurable on the server side) and dead leases will be eliminated then.
The floating license of HelpNDoc is now able to connect to the floating license server to request a lease. HelpNDoc will remember those settings so that it can seamlessly run next time.
